In our current culture of pluralism and individuality, a fair amount of controversy surrounds church, who leaves and why they leave.

Pew Research Center survey found that one in every two self-identified Christian believers who don’t attend church say that they “practice their faith in other ways.”

In the same survey, over half also said their absence was because they hadn’t found “a church or house of worship they liked.”

About 48 percent cited “not enough time” as their reason for not going to church.

"Are there any circumstances, do you feel, where one can be a good Christian and yet not forgive?" —Queen Elizabeth II to Billy Graham, The Crown

recent article about mental wellness advocated several appealing strategies for letting go of past hurts and creating healthier relationships: look for the positive in the situation, cultivate empathy for the other side and just move on.

It sounds very nice, but how many people are actually able to do this?

The real heart of the problem is that God was nowhere in this polite mix of pop-psychology and secular counciling.

I'm Hurt, So What Do I Do Now?

C.S. Lewis once said, “forgiveness is a lovely idea until you have to forgive someone.” When we choose to forgive we are not changing the past, we are changing the future. Any hurt that is left undealt with will morph into bitterness. Keep fervent in your love for God and for others so it will be easier to either cover an offense or confront the person with a heart for resolve. It’s always more rewarding to resolve a relationship then to dissolve one.
