Father, Son and Holy Spirit Are All Distinct Yet One

Developing a Deeper Understanding of the Trinity

Listen to podcast audio:

All of us experience and have a basic understanding of gravity but we might start to get lost if the conversation heads toward more complicated concepts and theories. The same can be said of the doctrine of the Trinity. If you’re a Christian, you’ve experienced the saving work of the Trinity, but you might not fully understand how God can be both three distinct persons and one God or what role each of them plays. Fred Sanders joins Gary Wilkerson to discuss the doctrine of the Trinity and encourages Christians to dig deeper into understanding the distinctness and oneness of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Key Points from the Podcast

  • The doctrine of the Holy Spirit belongs to every believer but can be studied to depths that most Christians don’t approach.

  • When we encounter Jesus and are born-again, we experience the saving work of the triune God, but as we mature in faith we should study and understand more deeply the doctrine of the Trinity.

  • Understanding the character, nature and oneness of the three persons of God will turn your heart to awe and worship.

  • The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all distinct persons of the Godhead, yet they are one.

  • We see throughout scripture that we can experience the Trinity both personally and impersonally.

  • All three persons of the Trinity are working in salvation—the Father sent the Son, the Son died for the sins of the world, and the Holy Spirit gives us a revelation of faith in the Son.
