Pastors and leaders from across the Amazon gathered to receive encouragement from World Challenge speakers.

East of the Andes is a city in Peru named Iquitos. Located in an ideal position to reach the northern Amazon and the tribes that live in this jungle region, it can only be reached by boat or by air travel.

World Challenge recently held a special conference in Iquitos for pastors and leaders. About 1,500 people attended, underscoring the deep hunger these believers have for biblical training. Some traveled 12 days by riverboat to attend and others came from as far as Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador.

Sessions were filled with questions about how to handle difficulties in church and leadership while also balancing ministry and family. Our speakers emphasized grace through faith and what it means to biblically serve.

Pastors were weeping, thanking World Challenge for coming to their area and providing Christian teaching and encouragement.

The fruit of revival that is being seen in the region now has grown from seeds planted long ago. Many are praying for a great move of God to happen again, and there are renewed efforts to establish a Bible college in Iquitos.

Our team also traveled to Peru’s capital, Lima—a city of more than 10 million people—where more than 500 key leaders of the church attended a World Challenge conference. They received teachings on sound doctrine and leadership skills.

There is a need for solid, biblical training in Peru. While the Bible is readily available in this country, Lima is a hotbed of liberal influence, people struggling with drug addiction, and a strong LGBTQ presence.

To continue encouraging these brothers in the faith, World Challenge provided pastors with more than 2,000 free copies of David Wilkerson’s book It Is Finished in Spanish (Consumado Es). We have been invited to return to Iquitos and Lima in 2025. Join us in praying for this region, that God will touch it once more with a powerful move of the Spirit!
