Wellness is a huge part of how we evaluate ourselves. How happy are we? How healthy do we feel? How are the relationships in our lives? Many professionals and friends want to tell us what wellness should look like, but what does the Bible say? This week, Gary Wilkerson discusses how God designed us to need certain things in order to be healthy mentally, physically and spiritually.
We make mistakes. Realize that's a part of life. The Bible says the righteous man stumbles seven times and gets back up. It doesn't say he never stumbles. You're not a failure unless you stay down. – Gary Wilkerson
Jesus says, "Love others as you love yourself." But some Christians only love others. They don't love themselves. – Gary Wilkerson
We’ve heard of the God-shaped hole in our heart, but I believe there is also a person-shaped hole in our heart. We need other people. – Gary Wilkerson
As you run from God and people, you run from community, from relationship, from intimacy. As you run you end up in deeper depths. Life gets worse and worse and worse the more we isolate ourselves. We can become critical and angry. – Gary Wilkerson
Say I want to write another book, and my motive is impact. I really want to have an impact on people's lives. That's a good motive. But what if my motive is love. Then I think I'll write a better book, have a better message, and I'll have a greater impact. – Gary Wilkerson
There are thousands and thousands of resources that can give us knowledge, but people are not hungry just for knowledge. They're hungry for love, to be loved, to be a part of something bigger than themselves, to be a part of a world that is in community but also and has an impact. – Gary Wilkerson
“If this is how God treats his friends, no wonder he has so few of them.”- Teresa of Avila
Jesus said, "Clean the inside of the cup, and the outside will take care of itself." But we do the opposite. Let's clean the outside of the cup, make it look good, have these external measures of validation, then I look good. I look healthy. I have the mask on. It's totally backward! – Gary Wilkerson
The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. – Proverbs 24:16a
The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ – Mark 12:31a
Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. – 1 Thessalonians 5:23
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. – Matthew 6:33
You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean. – Matthew 23:26
