A tribe threatened to kidnap our teams when they tried to share the gospel...then the Holy Spirit touched this village.

Our teams in Liberia have felt a deep missional calling to the tribes in their area, including the Poro in the village of Wehyeepa. After overcoming many challenges, spiritual revival has sparked in this village, transforming it into a beacon of light to a community that has historically deeply opposed Christianity.

When our team arrived in Wehyeepa, several villagers refused to let them enter. When the pastor and those accompanying him insisted that they had good news to share with the village, the locals became furious. Even though villagers threatened to abduct the team and hold them captive if they persisted, they returned home with new resolve to reach the Poro, despite the physical danger.

Pastor Miah, the team leader, gathered the church then reached out to World Challenge in the United States, asking that we pray for this situation. He stated, “I believe that God intends to transform the Wehyeepa people’s spiritual landscape.”
With renewed faith, the entire team dedicated a week to fasting and prayer.

After this week of fervent petition, Pastor Miah reached out to the Wehyeepa tribal leaders again. Their response filled him with joy. He and his team would be given a single day to share their message with the village.

They returned to Wehyeepa, and that evening between 500 and 600 villagers gathered to hear the message of hope and salvation. The Holy Spirit moved powerfully, and 60 people came forward to surrender their lives to Christ, including one of the village leaders who had formerly opposed Pastor Miah.

Today, this small body of new believers are eagerly organizing discipleship classes, studying the Bible verses that Pastor Miah and his team have given them, and growing in their faith. We are grateful to God for the powerful transformation the gospel has made in Wehyeepa, made possible by your prayers and support.
