In one troubled corner of Liberia’s ghettos, God’s power and light burst forth.

Silvia Gongan was once a well-known figure in the drug-dealing world of Gbarnga, Liberia. She oversaw a troubled ghetto called Block 304, where young men, especially motorcyclists, would flock to do drugs. Her life seemed destined for a path of destruction, a cycle that not only gripped her but also caused tremendous damage to the community around her.

However, something extraordinary happened. Amos Tomah, one of the pastors in our teams, boldly shared the story of Jesus Christ with Silvia. He could not have been more out of place in Block 304, but his words touched the deepest corners of Silvia’s heart. She had heard many things in her life, but this message was different. It was filled with hope, grace, and a love she had never experienced before.

She gave her life to Jesus. This decision was not just a personal transformation, though; it marked the beginning of a new purpose in Silvia’s life.

After seeing the undeniable work of God in Silvia, her husband surrendered his life to Jesus, too. Together, they have donated their land to building a worship center, a school, and a rehabilitation center for drug users in Gbarnga. This locwation, once tied to Silvia’s old life in Block 304, will now serve as a place of redemption, education, and recovery for those caught in the snare of drugs. Praise God for his goodness and the power of transformation in Christ!

Silvia is determined to give back to the community by helping people who were damaged by drugs to heal. World Challenge teams are assisting Silvia and her family not only grow in Christ but also build this rehabilitation ministry.

Silvia’s story is a testament to the transforming power of Jesus Christ, and her mission is a beacon of hope to many who are still trapped in the darkness of addiction. Please pray for Silvia and her husband, and consider a recurring gift of $30 a month to help support our efforts throughout the world.
