A Stitch in the Gospel

Mehwish returned to her home late from the sewing center run by World Challenge’s partners. Her mother was waiting for her, and a quiet bustle took place as her mother laid out some food. After Mehwish had eaten, her mother sent her to serve her grandmother tea before they all went to bed.  Her grandmother wanted to hear about the sewing classes Mehwish had recently started taking. “It will help you when you get married and start your family,” she noted, then asked piercingly, “Is that all you’re learning?” For a moment, Mehwish was shocked. Her heart beat faster as she answered, “We are studying the prophets and the stories of their lives.” She prayed furiously as she began to talk about Jesus and his teachings. “When I heard his story, I asked him to speak to me and lead me.” “Has he spoken to you?” her grandmother asked. Mehwish replied, “No, he has not spoken directly to me, but I have never felt such peace as I do now.”  Grandmother asked Mehwish to pray for her, too. She didn’t know what her grandmother’s reaction would be. She prayed for her grandmother and waited. Mehwish went to bed afraid. Later that evening, her grandmother came to her. “I feel a peace I have never experienced before. I want to learn more about these teachings you’ve learned. Take me to your sewing center.” Mehwish happily did, and she was overjoyed when her grandmother later insisted on being baptized! God’s living and active Word has incredible power (see Hebrews 4:12). It is changing people’s lives in hard-to-reach places, like areas of Central Asia. In hostile regions, baptism is a bold decision, but new believers like Mehwish’s grandmother follow Christ’s call no matter what. Please join us in praying for our partners as they share our great hope in Christ with others, despite the dangers. Your support can transform lives now and for eternity.
