There probably aren’t too many in the church today who have taken the time or made the effort to study church history, read the writings of the early church fathers, or understand the creeds and the heresies they were meant to counter. Chris Palmer joins Gary Wilkerson in encouraging Christians to discover the roots of their faith and grow in their knowledge of God.
Key Points from the Podcast
A proper biblical understanding of the Trinity as Father, Son and Spirit being distinct eternal persons all of the same divine essence distinguishes Christianity from pagan polytheistic religions.
If Jesus, the Son of God, is not fully God then worshiping him is idolatry.
The work of redemption requires Christ to be both God and man — a hypostatic union of divinity and humanity.
Studying church history and ancient heresies can’t help us not repeat them today.
Gnosticism is starting to creep back into the modern Christian church.
Community, like the ancient church councils, is an important part of interpreting scripture and not falling into heresy.
We can’t be a biblical bookworm who has no prayer life or someone who prays with no knowledge. There must be a balance between prayer and study.
