Grow the People and God Will Grow the Church

Lessons a Pastor Learned Through the COVID Pandemic

Listen to podcast audio:

As churches all over the world were forced to shut down during the COVID-19 global pandemic, pastors and church leaders had to scramble to find ways to keep their congregations engaged. Among them was Pastor Seth Drewry and his wife Katie of Believers Fellowship in Bellville, Arkansas. Pastor Seth joins Gary Wilkerson to share the lessons he has learned during this unprecedented time of global pandemic.

Key Points from the Podcast

  • Pastor Seth Drewry shares his experiences pastoring a small church in rural Arkansas through and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Live streams of worship services were a lifeline during the shutdowns, but they are no substitute for gathering in person.

  • Difficult circumstances, like a global pandemic, sift the church, separating the wheat from the tares, and show who is truly invested in kingdom ministry.

  • In a rural setting, where the population is limited and church attendance might not increase much, a church can focus its efforts on making a positive impact in their community.

  • Through the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lord showed Pastor Seth and his wife Katie the importance of intentionally discipling and investing in the people who returned after the shutdown, rather than fretting over those who would not return to church.

  • In his church, Pastor Seth emphasizes the importance of learning about the Holy Spirit, being baptized in the Holy Spirit, and walking in the gifts and power of the Holy Spirit.

  • A healthy church is one where people are getting saved, baptized, living holy lives, and sharing the gospel with others.
