The Old Testament prophet Jeremiah warned the people of Israel that they would receive judgment if they continued to reject God. This story carries a relevant message for Christians today: God sometimes allows people to experience the consequences of their own sin, not out of vindictiveness, but out of kindness. In episode two of this series, Keith Holloway looks at how God calls people away from sin and toward himself.

Key Points from the Podcast

  • Just as in Jeremiah’s time, we commit these two sins against God: we reject God, and we make ourselves gods.

  • Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

  • In his faithful love for his children God will not allow them to continue in sin without correction, discipline, and chastening.

  • The first stage of God’s judgment is meant to turn his people back to him.

  • If people will not respond to God’s judgment as discipline, then his judgment comes as destruction.
