The Maintenance of a Foundation

Rachel Chimits

Times of trial always reveal what we truly believe about ourselves, the world and our God, so what will the fires show about who and what we trust?

Sam Keyes, bio-engineering academic and public speaker about the integration of science and faith, noted a particularly notable instance of the church leading the response to a health crisis.

Revelation 1:17-18

When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades."

Our Present Fears

David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

* Editor's Note: Given the widespread news regarding the Coronavirus, this timely devotional is a reminder that when our hearts want to fear, God is with us.

As the world becomes increasingly violent, decadent, and uncertain, some Christians struggle to keep fear out of their hearts. They sense intuitively that conditions in the world are disintegrating, and some kind of ominous disaster may be looming on the horizon. As they hear all the terrible reports of what’s happening in America and around the globe, they struggle to rest in the promise of God’s keeping power.

A Viral Fear: Responding to the Coronavirus

Rachel Chimits

When worldwide issues begin to fill the news and rattle the public, how should Christians respond to these crises?

Fears have begun running rampant ever since the explosion of COVID-19 cases in China’s Hubei province.

News feeds have become clogged with articles about the quick spread of this new variety of human coronavirus. Photos and videos showing medical personnel in isolation hooded coveralls, masks and goggles have only heightened the general public’s alarm.

Luke 12:6-7

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Without Jesus, We Have Nothing

Gary Wilkerson

“There was Eli, sitting on a seat by the wayside watching, for his heart trembled for the ark of God” (1 Samuel 4:13).

The word “tremble” as it is used here means to be in anguish, as travailing. At this time in his life, Eli was old and infirm, his eyes had grown dim, his spiritual leadership was diminishing, and his own sons were corrupt priests. Things all around him looked hopeless.
