Moved to Love

Most sermons on Pentecost focus on the signs and wonders performed by the apostles, or the 3,000 who were saved in one day, or the cloven tongues of fire that appeared. But we don't hear about one event that became the greatest wonder of all. This event sent multitudes back to their nations with a vivid, unmistakable impression of who Jesus is.

Forged in the Right Fire

The world and the Bible have very different ideas about love in all its various forms, so where exactly do these definitions diverge?

The age-old human tradition of rubbernecking at dumpster fires is a well-documented one and thoroughly practiced throughout all generations, ranging anywhere from the 1897 novel Irene Iddesleigh to the Netflix documentary Tiger King and beyond.

Ephesians 4:1-2

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love.

“[Jesus] colocou uma toalha em volta da cintura. Depois disso, derramou água numa bacia e começou a lavar os pés dos seus discípulos, enxugando-os com a toalha” (João 13:4-5). Alguns cristãos devotos seguem este exemplo e têm o costume do “lava pés”. Mesmo que isto seja recomendável, há um significado mais profundo a ser aprendido com esta prática. De fato, depois de ter lavado os pés dos discípulos, Jesus perguntou: “Vocês entendem o que lhes fiz?” (João 13:12).
